Oceanica Provides Training of Marine Mammal Observers

Australia's marine mammal protection laws are among the most stringent in the world. Further, there is increasing public awareness and engagement in environmental issues concerning marine mammals and an expectation that human activities will not unduly interfere with these animals.

Under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 all works which carry a risk of impacting marine mammals are subject to regulatory approval. These approvals are often granted with a requirement for observations by a trained marine mammal observer to occur during certain marine works.

Oceanica can provide marine mammal observer training for site personnel. This training is tailored to the client’s requirements and would include detailed coverage of any specific conditions required by government approval permits. Training can be provided on or off-site and is scalable to needs and group size. Each trainee shall be provided with a comprehensive set of course notes. Please contact us for more information.
